Abstract

A dental preparation comprises a fluoride compound capable of releasing fluorine ions in solution, and a higher aliphatic acyl amide of an amino carboxylic acid compound. Suitable fluorides are: sodium or potassium fluoride; ammonium, zinc, lead or barium fluorides; cuprous, stannic or stannous fluorides; potassium stannous fluoride (Sn F2. KF); stannous chlorofluoride; sodium or ammonium fluosilicates, amminium mono- and difluophosphates, and fluorinated sodium calcium pyrophosphate. The preferred amide compounds are those of general formula:- <FORM:0776131/VI/1> where RCO is a saturated fatty acyl radical of 12-16 carbon atoms; R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing up to four carbon atoms; X is hydrogen or a cation which forms water soluble salts. Examples of these compounds given are: sodium, potassium and ethanolamine N-lauryl sarcoside, sodium N-myristoyl sarcoside, sodium N-palmityl sarcoside, N-lauroyl, sarcosine, sodium N-lauroyl alanine and solium N-lauroyl glycide. The preparation may also contain polishing agents, e.g. calcium polyphosphates, bentonite or alumina; flavouring oils; preservatives; whitening p agents; chlorophyll compounds; and compounds or mixtures which will release ammonia in the mouth, e.g. urea and diammonium phosphate. Antibiotics may also be included in the preparations. Specifications 728,243 and 753,979 are referred to.
