Abstract

775,911. Respiratory appliances. KIDDE CO., Ltd., W. Jan. 30, 1956 [Jan. 28, 1955], No. 2689/55. Class 81(2) Breathing apparatus for use in aircraft comprises a mask a, Fig. 1, comprising an oval-shaped inflatable bladder d, Fig. 2, and a banjo fitting g connected by a tubular supporting boom b to a harness c and communicating through a tube b 1 , incorporating an aneroid-operated valve, with an oxygen cylinder. When the mask is not in use, the bladder is in a collapsed condition and the mask is held clear of the face. Upon the pressure in the aircraft cabin falling to a predetermined minimum, the valve opens automatically so that oxygen is supplied to the tube b and inflates the bladder through the tube m so as to seal the mask against the wearer's face Following the inflation, the oxygen flows into the banjo fitting through a spring- loaded ball valve and thence through the passage h to the mouth of the wearer. A microphone p may be incorporated in the mask and the harness provided with earphones.
