Abstract

760,815. Reciprocating compressors. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 3, 1953 [April 23, 1953], No. 30398/53. Class 8(1) [Also in Group XXIX] A reciprocating compressor has a valve plate 4 with delivery and suction passages 5, 6 interposed between the cylinder 2 and a cylinder head 3 having a suction chamber 12 and a delivery chamber 14, the delivery passage 5 being controlled by a valve in the form of a crescent-shaped reed secured at its ends to the plate. The suction valve also may be in the form of a crescent-shaped reed but as shown comprises a reed 8 with an opening 9 which permits it to be mounted withoutblocking the discharge passage. The discharge passage comprises a number of ports 5 arranged along an arc of a circle or it may be formed as an arcuate slot. The discharge port comprises ports 6 and in the case of a crescent-shaped suction valve, these also are arranged along an arc of a circle. The delivery valve is backed by a crescent-shaped stop member 16 loaded by an arcuate spring 17 which may also be crescent-shaped. The suction and delivery chambers 12, 14 are separated by an arcuate partition 18. Gaskets 15, 15<SP>1</SP> are arranged on both sides of the plate 4.
