Abstract
A puncture-sealing composition comprises a mixture of a filler, a gelatinous medium, and a humectant e.g. glycerine a corrosion inhibitor, e.g. sodium benzoate, a bactericide, e.g. an aqueous eucalyptus oil emulsion, and a fungicide, e.g. copper carbonate. The filler may comprise powdered mica or other lamellar material or fine granular precipitated chalk 60 to 100 per cent by weight, finely ground asbestos or other fibrous material 0 to 40 per cent, and human hair or other coarse-fibred material 0 to 5 per cent. The gelatinous medium may contain, singly or in combination, bentonite or other hydrophilic colloidal clay or metal hydroxide, a water-dispersible gum, and stearic or other longchain carboxylic acid partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol, and water, e.g. it may comprise (in parts by weight) (a) bentonite 7,5 Karaya gum 2,0 water 90,5, (b) bentonite 12 water 88, (c) Karaya gum 5,0 water 95,0, (d) glyceryl monostearate 7,5 water 92,5, (e) aluminium hydroxide 9,0 water 91,0. The composition may also contain a wetting agent, e.g. an alkyl sulphate, alkyl aryl sulphonate, a quaternary ammonium compound, polyglycerol or polyglycol.
