Abstract
766,816. Injection-moulding machines. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. March 22, 1954 [May 28, 1953], No. 8261/54. Class 87(2). Mould cavities 22, Fig. 1, are formed by two separate plates 21, 20, the upper plate 21 having sprue openings 25. These plates rest on a third plate 19 which is supported by a heated platen 16 that is vertically reciprocable on rods 11. A ring-like member 28, which in conjunction with plate 21 forms the injection cylinder or transfer chamber (see Fig. 2) is suspended on bolts 27 from an upper stationary heated platen 14. The injection plunger 37 is secured to platen 14. In use, a mass 26 of natural or synthetic rubber or other elastomer is placed on the plate 21 and the platen 16 is raised, the elastomer being injected into the mould cavities as shown in Fig. 2. When platen 16 descends, the resilient sprue portion 41 snaps away from the extension 34 on member 28; this extension may be separate from but mounted on member 28. The articles made, A, are bottle stoppers. In a modification, Fig. 6, the member 28 incorporates spring-pressed metal-faced gaskets 54. U.S.A. Specification 1,919,534 is referred to.
