Abstract

757,179. Batch mixing-machines. EDWARDS, G. W. Oct. 21, 1954, No. 30343/54. Class 86. An apparatus for mixing liquids consists of a vessel 40 through the base of which projects a shaft 15 driven by a motor 17 carrying a rotor 18 at its upper end, the rotor being located between a concentrically disposed, annular member 21 which is supported from the container base by rods 20 and a second annular member 25 supported from the first by a number of short rods 24 arranged on a circle. The number of rods 24 can be varied to vary the mixing effect of the device. The upper member 25 carries a tube 27 on which a tube 28 is slidably adjustable to allow for variations of level in container 40. The rotor 18 is shown in Figs. 1 and 2. It consists of a square section hub 1 carrying four blades 2 each having a vertical portion 3 provided with upper and lower wing portions 4, 5 which are bent so as to diverge from the vertical portion and also to converge in a direction from the centre of the rotor radially outwards, the setting of the wings being such that when rotated in the liquid the rotor draws liquid in from below and downwardly through tubes 28, 27 and ejects the two streams radially against rods 24 so that intimate mixing of the streams occurs.
