Abstract

756,988. Percussive tools. MACCHIONI, P. A., and MACCHIONI, L. March 26, 1954 [March 27, 1953], No. 8967/54. Class 124. An electrically driven hammer tool comprises a main casing and a hammer head in the form of a rectangular frame reciprocably mounted in the casing on a connecting rod by means of double acting springs, the other end of the connecting rod being driven by an electric motor through a crank. As shown an electric motor 2 mounted in a casing 1 drives, through belts 7, a shaft 9 having an eccentric pin 13 on which is pivotally mounted one end of a connecting rod 21 the other end of which is resiliant and horse-shoe shaped and is connected to a slide 23 mounted in a frame 24. The frame 24 is mounted in guideways 25 in a cylinder 26 rigidly secured to the body 2. The slide 23 is held in the frame by two springs 28 and 30 and a rubber buffer 31, the spring 28, in a stressed condition, being fitted between the slide 23 and an outside flange on a tumbler 29, and the spring 30 between the frame 24 and the inner side of the tumbler 29. The springs may be replaced by a rubber buffer or by springs encased in rubber and the buffer 31 may be replaced by springs. A pulley on the shaft 9 drives by a belt a shaft 34 carrying a bevel gear 36 engaging a gear 37 on the drill chuck for rotating the drill. A fan 14 on the shaft 9 drives air into the motor casing and a fan 18 on the motor extracts air from the casing.
