Abstract

756,229. Securing wiper arms to shafts. PRODUCTIVE INVENTIONS, Inc. Dec. 24, 1953 [Jan. 2, 1953], No. 35919/53. Class 80(2) [Also in Group XXIII] Relates to means for securing a windscreen wiper arm (see also Group XXIII) to its actuating shaft. The head section 1 of the wiper arm, Fig. 12, includes a tapered and serrated sleeve to fit over a serrated drum on the wiper drive shaft 3, and a radial extension 10 to which the outer wiper blade carrying taperedchannel-section arm 4 is pivoted at 5. Journalled in the radial extension 10 is a pin 37 having secured at its upper end a lever 40 and at its lower end a latch 39. A flat 38, Figs. 20, 21, 22, on the pin coacts with a C-shaped spring 36 disposed in a rectangular recess 35 in the extension. When a cap 9, Fig. 17, is swung to cover the section 1 one of its side walls cams the lever 40 and the spring 36 coacting with the flat 38 snaps the latch 39 to the position shown in Fig. 22, where it engages under the drum on the shaft 3 and thus locks the wiper arm to the shaft Modifications of the locking means for the head section 1, wherein the C spring is omitted, are described with reference to Figs. 24, 25 (not shown).
