Abstract

755,076. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Aug. 17, 1954 [Aug. 17, 1953], No. 23957/54. Class 118(2) A direction indicating system of the flashing lights type on a motor vehicle is adapted such that the circuit of at least one rearwardly shining light is closed when reverse gear is engaged. A battery 1 feeds signalling lights 5, 6, 8 and 9 via a flasher 2 and selector switch 3. A lead 11 from the battery 1 is taken to an insulated contact 13 on an extension 12 of the gear lever 10 and when the lever 10 is moved into the reverse position Ru connection is made with leads 14 and 15 to light all the lamps 5, 6, 8 and 9 steadily. A switch 16 coupled to lighting switch 17 ensures that these lamps are only lit when the normal vehicle lighting is on. In a simplified version (Fig. 2, not shown) only those lights on the driver's side of the vehicle are lit upon reversing. In either embodiment it may be arranged that only the rearwardly shining light(s) are lit.
