Abstract
732,957. Electrostatic filters. RESEARCH CORPORATION. Oct. 29,1953 [Oct. 29, 1952], No. 29923/53. Class 39 (1). In an electrostatic precipitator sets of auxiliary electrodes a, b are arranged between the discharge electrodes A and the non-discharge extended surface collector electrodes B to prevent gas ions from reaching the electrodes B and thereby provoking " back corona ". The auxiliary electrodes consist of two groups of alternate electrodes a, b connected together. An alternating non-discharge electric field is set up between these groups of such frequency as to allow charged particles, but not gas ions to reach the collector electrodes B. A D.C. bias potential is applied to the auxiliary electrodes of a value nearer to that of the discharge electrodes than the potential which would be provided at the position of the auxiliary electrodes by the normal potential gradient between the discharge and collecting electrodes.
