Abstract

737,070. Gasifying pulverulent fuels. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AKT.-GES. Dec. 2, 1953 [Dec. 11, 1952], No. 33457/53. Class 55 (1). In a process of gasifying, in a flame, pulverulent fuels with endothermic and exothermic gasifying agents, the exothermic gasifying agent is divided into two streams before introduction into the gasification chamber, one stream being introduced with or without the endothermic gasifying agent and with a direction of flow parallel to the flow of the fuel, and the other stream alone and with a direction of movement having a component perpendicular to the direction of flow of the fuel and the first stream of exothermic gasifying agent, the size of the two streams of exothermic gasifying agent being adjusted to correspond to the ignition properties of the fuel. As shown in the drawing, pulverulent fuel is introduced in a carrier gas, for example air, through a conduit 1 which is arranged in a gasifying chamber and defines therewith an annular chamber 2 into which is introduced part of the exothermic gasifying agent together with steam or carbon di-oxide. The remainder of the exothermic gasifying agent is introduced through a pipe 3 concentric with conduit 1 and having at its lower end a baffle 4 which deflects the exothermic gasifying agent into the streams entering through 1 and 2. The process is controlled by observation of the wall temperatures of the gasification chamber. In an example, 200 kilograms of coke dust were supplied per hour to the gasification chamber; 40 cubic metres of oxygen and 62 cubic metres of steam were passed in through the annular chamber 2 and 90 cubic metres of oxygen through the central pipe 3.
