735,137. Shredding &c. paper pulp. MORDEN, R. B. March 13, 1953, No. 7015/53. Class 59. [Also in Group VIII] A machine for shredding and re fining paper pulp comprises an annu lar stator 35 with grooved teeth 36 which conform to a frusto-conical surface and coact with hollow teeth 32 on a disc-like rotor 27 on a shaft 17 in a bearing housing 19 which is adjustable axially by a hand-wheel 22 and worm gear 23 &c., the rotor and stator being in a tank 10 with an outlet 14 for batch operation and an outlet 18a, covered by a screen, for continuous operation. The stator and rotor have also cylindrical surfaces separated by a small space 29 which is kept clear by bars on the rotor. The rotor acts as a pump circulating the pulp so that fibrebundles &c. are impacted by the teeth of the rotor and stator and may be sheared between the two sets of teeth 32 and 36.
