728,934. Tyre repair patches. BOYCE, R. D., and ROMAC INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 13, 1953 [Nov. 21, 1952], No. 29521/52. Class 144 (1). In a repair patch comprising a thick cured rubber body 12 having on one side a layer 11 of uncured adhesive, protected by a layer 10 of foil or the like, the periphery of which extends beyond that of the body 12, a thin rim 14a of cured rubber extends from the body 12 to provide a backing for the projecting edge 11a of the adhesive layer 11, the body 12 and its rim 14a being protected by an air-tight layer 13. As shown, the patch may be made by sandwiching a slug of vulcanizable uncured rubber 12 between a coating of independently unvulcanizable adhesive 11 covering a protective layer 10, and a coating of vulcanizable solution or dough 14 carried on a paper or linen backing 13, and then pressing the assembly into a resilient blanket or the like 17 on a cold platen 16 by means of a hot vulcanizing platen 15 to shape and partially or completely cure the coatings and body.
