Abstract
719,848. Percussive drills. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. Sept. 18, 1952, [Sept. 20, 1951.] No. 23504/52. Class 124. A coupling for drill rod elements comprises one element with a peg adapted to fit into a' socket on another element, a groove in the outer surface of the socket, an opening through the wall of the socket connecting the interior of the socket with the groove, and a key lying in the groove and extending through the opening to engage, a notch in the peg when the latter is positioned in the socket. As shown, a drill bit 10 has a socket 19 and a groove 26 on the outside in which lies a key 17. One end of the key, which may be of'spring steel, engages a recess 25 at the end of the groove and the other extends through an opening 15 and engages a notch 16 in the surface of a peg 14 on a drill rod 11. The peg and socket may be polygonal in cross-section and a washer may be inserted between the peg and the bottom of the socket. The end of the key extending through the opening may be thicker and less flexible than the remainder.
