Abstract
546,086. Percussive rock drills. CRAIG, E. Dec. 23, 1940, No. 18020. [Class 124] In a percussion rock drill in which a bit 1 is removably secured to a drill rod 6 by the end of the members being inserted into a socket 2 in the other member, the inter fitting surfaces of the two members are substantially parallel with the drill axis and are of Archimedean spiral configuration. The inserted member may be slightly tapered with a bevelled end to facilitate entry into the socket, and its bottom may be slightly convex to engage the cor - respondingly concave bottom of the socket. The spiral configuration may be duplicated, and the wall of the socket may be adapted to stretch slightly to improve the locking effect. Also, the inserted member may be formed with one or more circumferential corrugations 7.
