719,106. Treating tobacco. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP VEREENIGDE TABAKSINDUSTTRIEEN MIGNOT & DE BLOCK. March 31, 1952 [April 2,. 1951], No. 8135/52. Class 130 To vary the average size of tobacco leaf portions produced in a thrasher and winnower having a pinned thrashing roller 19 fed by conveying rollers or by a conveying belt 1 which may co-act with a roller 30, a grid 20 partially surrounding: the roller 19, and behind the grid a sorting channel 22 in which an upward current of air is induced by a fan, the speed of the belt 1, roller 19 or of both is alterable as by employing adjustable-pulley drives thereto, the said average size decreasing as the speed of the belt 1 diminishes relative to that of the roller 19. As described, grids of differing mesh are used to suit differing average sizes of leaf portions. In the channel 22, wholly or partially stripped stems drop through an outlet 31 whilst leaf portions pass into a chamber 26 for periodical disposal through doors 33, the air escaping through a grid 25. Partially stripped stems from one machine may be successively passed to the same machine, or other machines, progressively set to produce smaller average sizes of leaf portions.
