Class 43 [Also in Group XXV] A fastening device embodying two elements which may be used for securing together the ends of a belt or strap, or employed for securing a valise or bag comprises an element formed by a double armed resilient member 1 of wire or strip metal located within a guide consisting of a metal box 5 open at one end to receive a slidable member 2 which forms the second element and is provided with notches 4 along each edge to engage and interlock with the upwardly offset extremities 3 of the limbs of the resilient member 1, the intermediate parts 1<1> of each limb being bowed to project through slots in the wall of the box 5, so that inward pressure upon those parts acts to disengage the two elements which can then be separated by an outward sliding action. The transverse junction between the limbs of the spring member is secured to the bottom of the box by slitting the bottom to provide a tongue 7 which is bent upwardly over the said junction. The blank from which the box 5 is formed provides a tongue portion 9 adapted to be bent back so that it is positioned above the limbs of the resilient member 1 thereby providing an entrance for the sliding element 2 and also forming a support therefor. An inward slot 8 is provided at each edge of the tongue 9 to provide a passage for the adjacent offset end of the resilient member 1 and permit its lateral movement relative to the member 2 for the engaging and disengaging actions. In a modification, Fig. 2, the limbs of the resilient member 1 do not cross and are urged outwardly to engage within notches 4 along the sides of a longitudinal slot in the member 2. The slide member 2 may be made of rigid or flexible material or may consist of a strip of woven material with its entering- end reinforced and its edges provided with rigid tooth members 10, Fig. 5, which may be joined together either by rigid members 11 at right angles to the edges or by oblique members 11'.
