Abstract

703,599. Drying cellulosic tubing. SPARKES, H. June 26, 1952, No. 16053/52. Class 34(1) In a method of drying a seamless cellulosic tube while inflated, the tube is inflated by pure oxygen. The tube Z passes between rollers A and thence through the drying chamber to rollers B the section of tube between the sets of rollers being inflated by oxygen and containing a sealing fluid to seal all perforations which may have occurred during manufacture. The drying chamber has a steam-heated jacket which supplies radiant heat to the tube and hollow circular jets D through which the tube passes supply hot air through orifice E the tube being supported by the hot air jets. Exhaust air and water vapour are drawn off by a suction fan through duct H. The heated jacket is supplied with steam through inlet K1 and condensate is removed through outlet K2.
