702,303. Charging furnaces. ELEKTROKEMISK AKTIESELSKAP. Jan. 11, 1952 [Jan. 15, 1951], No. 861/52. Class 51 (2) In the operation of electric smelting furnaces for the manufacture of carbides, ferro-alloys, pig iron &c. "fines" are separated from the charge material and the residue is charged immediately around the electrodes, the separated " fines " being charged at a more remote point, e.g. at the centre of a triangle formed by three vertical electrodes. The separated " fines constitute between 5 per cent-15 per cent of the charge weight and may include material continuously separated from the flue gases and returned to the furnace by a screw conveyer.
