Abstract
586,819. Charging devices. AKHURST, W. A. Dec. 4, 1944, No. 24181. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] Apparatus for charging a blast furnace comprises a container near the furnace mouth, means operable to allow charged material to enter the furnace across substantially its entire cross-section and driven means to impart a spreading action to such material. The rotatable bin 5, divided by concentric partitions 6 and radial webs 7, is disposed over the furnace mouth, power operated doors 5a and 2 closing bin and furnace mouth respectively. In a modification (not shown) one or more ploughcarrying bars replace the partitions 6 and webs 7 and in this case the bin may be stationary. Twin hoppers 27, conveyers 23 and shoots 21 supply ore and coke respectively and a single shoot 19 is used for special materials. Gas leakages are prevented by flaps 28, 19a on the shoots and the hood 8 sand sealed at 10, an explosion door 30 being also fitted.
