Abstract
The invention comprises substituted 4, 5-dihydro-1, 3, 2-dithiastibioles of the general formula: <FORM:0701965/IV (b)/1> where R represents halogen, or a hydroxy, alkoxy, thioalkyl or thioaryl radical, and a process for the preparation of the above compounds by reacting 2, 3-dithiopropanol with an antimony trihalide to form the desired compound when R represents halogen, and reacting this compound with water, alkyl alcohols, alkyl mercaptans or aryl mercaptans to form the desired compounds where R represents a hydroxy, alkoxy, thioalkyl or thioaryl radical. The latter reaction may be carried out by refluxing the reactants. The antimony trihalide may be antimony trichloride. Preferably, the group R represents chlorine or fluorine, or an alkoxy radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a thioalkyl radical containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms. In the examples the following compounds of the above general formula are prepared wherein R represents chlorine and the hydroxy, ethoxy, n-butoxy, n-amylthio, ethylthio and phenylthio radical. Other compounds mentioned are of the above general formula where R represents fluorine, and the methoxy and propoxy radicals.
