Abstract

701,394. Lifting dogs. RUTHERFORD, W. April 3, 1952 [April 4, 1951], No. 7796/51. Class 78 (4) [Also in Group XXIII] A device for lifting kerbs and the like comprises two pivoted gripping arms comprising single or paired members 1 and 2, one arm 1 is extended beyond the pivot and is connected by a pivot 5 to a rectangular frame 6 lying parallel with the arms and guided by uprights 10 on the arm 2. The frame has transverse members 7 and splayed ends carrying handles 9. Raising the handles effects lifting the kerb. This can be applied to a gripping device of the kind described in Specification 645,790. For heavier loads two or more devices are combined by passing a bar through the frames and upper arms 1, replacing the pivot 5. The bar is provided with holes and pins which prevent the devices moving. For curved kerbs, wedges are combined with the gripping pads 3 and 4.
