Load, engaging. - An appliance for lifting blocks of stone &c. comprises a pair of arms 1 pivotally mounted on a slotted cross-bar 3, a wedge 4 passing through the slot and engaging the arms and being suspended from the crane lifting hook. A second wedge 6 is adapted to be driven through a slot in the first wedge so as to cause it to press against the arms 1 and force their points into the sides of the recess A in the block B.
