Abstract
699,157. Vehicle wheels. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. Sept. 24, 1951 [Jan. 15, 1951], No. 22295/51. Class 144 (ii). In a wheel rim of the type having a detachable side-flange 3 secured by a split ring 2, the flange comprises a tyre-bead seating-portion 20 which extends over the base 7 of the fixed rim part 1, a return-bent tyre-retaining portion 21 and a flexible portion 22. The latter, which extends axially within the portion 20 and is coned so as to diverge therefrom, terminates in a lip 23, the split ring being clamped between the portion 22 and the wall 14 of the rim-groove 9. As shown, the bead-seats 10, 20 of the fixed and detachable rim parts are tapered, and the (reversible) locking-ring 2 is formed with coned surfaces 18, 19 to mate with the part 22. To enhance the fitment in use, the radial depth of the ring 2 is greater than the normal distance between the bed 17 of the rim groove 9 and the part 22.
