Abstract

The affinity of filaments, yarns and fabrics of synthetic linear polyesters derived from glycols and terephthalic acid for dispersed acetate dyestuffs, is improved by treating the filaments, yarns or fabrics with sulphuryl chloride. In an example, pieces of fabric of polyethylene terephthalate yarn are treated for periods up to 15 minutes in sulphuryl chloride, washed with dilute caustic soda and then with water, and dyed with Dispersol Fast Scarlet G150. The depth of shade obtained is proportional to the time of treatment.
