Abstract

Fabric is knitted from a ground yarn capable of being shrunk to a substantial degree and face yarn capable of limited shrinkage so that the fabric has a pattern, design or other fancy effect and is then treated with steam to shrink the ground yarn e.g. 30 to 50%. The face yarn may be interknitted or inlaid and the fabric may be warp-knitted. The yarns, which may be of different colours, may be of wool, cotton, worsted, artificial silk, nylon or mixtures thereof. The ground yarn may be of polyvinyl chloride or polyester fibres. The fabric may be used for furnishings, rugs, garments or trimmings.
