Abstract
697,869. Piezo-electric crystals. POSTMASTER GENERAL. May 12, 1952 [May 11, 1951], No. 11216/51. Class 40 (viii). A piezoelectric crystal 3 is attached to a mounting member 5 by bending the latter, placing it in contact with the surface 2 of the crystal, and heating it to a point sufficient to soften that part of the crystal, the member 5 then sinking into the crystal, and having two adjacent limbs projecting from the surface thereof. One limb is preferably normal to the surface of the crystal and one makes an angle of 30 degrees therewith. The surface 2 may be electroded before the member 5 is applied. If the latter is provided with a coating of tin lead solder, it will make good contact with the electrode and serve as a connecting lead. The member 5 is preferably heated in the mounting operation by passing a current therethrough. The crystal may be ethyl diamine tartrate or ammonium dihydrogen phosphate.
