Abstract

683,496. Drying air. NORGREEN CO., C. A. July 24, 1950, No. 18483/50. Class 34 (i) [Also in Group II] A filter for removing moisture from the air supply of machine tools pneumatically lubricated has a hollow casing having an upper section 3 and a lower section 4 which are transparent and are clamped together by rings 5a, 5b between which is annular partioning member 7 having air inlet 9 and outlet 10. The member 7 is centrally apertured at 13 and a fine mesh tubular screen 14 extends into bowl 4 providing the only passage therefrom into bowl 3 and a discharge outlet 15 for separated liquid is provided at the lower part of bowl 4. Another screen 16 extends upwardly into bowl 3 from an imperforate tube 17 and is surrounded by filter medium 18 of cotton-thread on other absorbent material chemically treated with cobaltous chloride to act as a colour indicator of moisture content. An annular groove 20 in the member 7 communicates with outlet 10. A small tube 11 depends from member 7 and has its lower end closed, a series of small ports 12 being arranged to discharge the incoming air into the bowl 4 tangentially and cause cyclonic motion, some moisture being precipitated. The air then passes through screens 14, 16 and absorbent 18 to outlet 10 the colour of the absorbent changing from blue to pink as the water content increases. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 651,008, (Group XXVIII].
