Abstract

684,938. Potato-harvesters. JOHNSON, T. S. Oct. 9, 1951 [April 19, 1951]. No. 9213/51. Class 6 (iii). A potato-harvester of the kind having a share 1 feeding an endless-chain conveyer 2 is mounted in a frame 7 supported on the lift-links 19, 29 of a tractor, the share and conveyer being only half the width of the tractor wheel-track and being laterallyoffset on the frame from the centre line of the tractor. The digging unit comprises beams 6 supporting the share and conveyer sprockets 3, 4, and in turn supported on the frame 7 which includes a forward bar 8 carrying the two connections 28 for the lower lift-links 29 and a pair of uprights 9 connected to the upper link 19. The frame is braced by crossbars 10 and carriers bearings 38 for a shaft 17 driving the conveyer 2, the shaft 17 being connected to the tractor take-off through a universally-jointed connection 17a, 17b. Agitators 11, 12, engaging the conveyer-chains provide a jigging action, and an inclined grid 14 at the rear of the conveyer directs the cleaned potatoes away from the track of the vehicle. The apparatus rests upon vertically-adjustable wheels 25 with disc rims 21.
