A device for use in various forms of apparatus in which kinematograph film is handled comprises a four-sided housing 9 having apertures 10, 11 in opposite sides equidistant from parallel portions of the sides 12, 13 by which the housing may be alternatively located on the machined bed of associated apparatus, these latter sides having apertures 15, 16 through which a film may be fed, there being juxtaposed to the aperture 10 a film gate 1 having a pair of film register pins, one of which is a full-fitting pin, and the pins being adjacent one horizontal edge of the gate aperture with the full-fitting pin also adjacent one vertical edge. In the film printer shown, the housing 9 is provided with feed and take-up spools 18, 19 two of each being provided for composite kinematography in order to print from two films in superposition. A lamp-house 26, which may carry a filter 21, is aligned with the aperture 10 and a camera 22 with the aperture 11. For use as a projector the housing 9 is reversed, end for end, so that the aperture 11 is adjacent the lamp-house, and a projection lens is mounted on the bed 14 opposite the aperture 10. This arrangement is used for projecting from a negative film on to a screen for re-photographing. The reversal of the housing 9, end-for-end, retains the relationship of the full-fitting register pin with the vertical edge of the gate apparatus. An air supply, for cooling, may be provided to the housing 9. The housing may also form part of a camera or of test apparatus.
