The apparatus comprises a casing with a lens adjacent an aperture in the front wall and a light entry aperture in the rear wall, with a light passage between and a path for a film intersecting the light passage so near the focus of the lens that the apparatus can be used for projection or viewing without alteration, a lamp carrier being movably mounted on the rear wall so as to be movable into or out of alignment with the light entry aperture. The form shown in section has a casing in halves. One half is formed of one side wall and the front 8 and bottom 11 of the peripheral wall and the walls 20, 21 of the light passage. The other half is formed of the other side and peripheral walls and the walls 22, 23 of the light passage. The walls 20, 21 are slotted at 27 to receive the viewing or projection lens 28. The walls 22, 23 are slotted at 29 to receive the condenser lenses 30. A film path through the casing is provided between walls 16, 17. The latter, for part of their width, are carried on one half of the casing and, for the remainder, on the other half. Apertures 25, 26 in these walls are aligned with the light passage other apertures with a feed claw 37. The latter is forked at 35 to embrace a fixed pin 36 and is carried by an eccentric pin 33 rotatable by an external handle directly, or through a belt drive with step-up ratio for kinematographic presentation. Alternatively an external spring motor may be fitted. The film is fed to and from its passage through slits 18, 19. Alternatively, if an endless film is used, it may lie wholly within the casing at the side of the light passage, the walls 20, 21 not extending the full width of the casing, and pass to and from its passage through apertures 44, 45.
