Abstract

The efficiency of combustion of heating fuel oils is increased by introducing the fuel oil and a catalytic agent into the combustion chamber of the heating installation and burning the oil under air draught, the catalytic agent comprising a mixture of cobalt and aluminium, cobalt and chromium or cobalt and copper compounds of a long chain saturated or unsaturated fatty acid having at least 10 carbon atoms, the agent being used in a proportion of from 0.01 to 0.085 per cent by weight of the fuel oil. The cobalt compound preferably constitutes from 50-80 per cent of the agent. The catalyst may be dissolved in the oil before injection into the combustion space or it may be injected continuously or intermittently independently of the main fuel.
