650,168. Supply systems for space discharge lamps. EKCO-ENSIGN ELECTRIC, Ltd., and STICKLEY, W. A. Feb. 3,1948, No. 3085. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iv)] An arrangement for operating a straight tubular discharge lamp comprises a transformer, in a metal casing, connected to the lamp and of length at least ten times its width and disposed not more than ¥ inch from and parallel with the lamp so as to constitute an auxiliary starting electrode. The transformer is preferably mounted midway between the lamp ends so that leads of equal length may connect the transformer secondaries to the filamentary electrodes to ensure equal heating and thereby prevent rectification. The metal casing is preferably " earthed."
