Abstract

657,502. Boxes. SANDERS, E. C. July 29, 1948, No. 20203. [Class 18] A sheet metal box, having upwardly diverging side and end walls to permit nesting of a number of like empty boxes, has at the top of each end wall a hinged plate 18 that can be swung on to the top of the side walls to provide support for a box stacked above it. Each plate has a hand-hole 21 so that it can be used as a handle and the side remote from the hinge is rolled to engage a transverse groove in the base of the stacked box. The side edges 23 of the plates are inwardly flanged to engage the bladed top edges 22 of the side walls. The walls of the box may have strengthening ribs 15 and the base may have longitudinal grooves. Ventilation holes may be formed in the box walls or may be provided by the use of tubular rivets to connect the walls and the base.
