Abstract
2-Ethoxy-benzamide is obtained by reacting salicylic amide with an ethyl ester of a mono-basic inorganic acid or of a di-or poly-basic inorganic acid in which all the acid groups are esterified with ethyl, e.g. diethyl sulphate, whereby the hydroxyl group is converted into an ethoxy group. The reaction may be effected at a temperature not exceeding 50 DEG C. A detailed example is given.
