Abstract

655,407. Air filters. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO., Inc. Sept. 29, 1947, No. 26254. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1946. '[Class 8(ii)] [Also in Group XL(a)] A gas filter is supported in a series of zig-zag panels between interfitting casing elements 19, 21. Each element 19, 21 comprises a rectangular base 24, with V-shaped members 22 extending from opposite sides, the opposed members being interconnected by struts 25, 31. The struts 31 are channelled and the V-shaped members 22 on element 19, are separated at their bases by channelled members. The edges of the filter panels fit into the channelled members and the channelled struts. The filter medium is composed of a plurality of superimposed layers, each layer comprising a matted network of short-fibered wood pulp. An electrostatic potential may be applied between the centre of each filter panel and its edges, and the assembly preceded by an ionizer. Several filter assemblies may be mounted in parallel.
