[Class 120 (ii)] A feeding mechanism for a wire &c. coiling machine comprises in combination a pair of feed rollers g, a pair of electric motors i, h, adapted to actuate the rollers g, at different speeds, a unidirectional clutch j between the slower motor i and the rollers g, a switch o operable by the wire &c., for controlling the faster motor h, and a two-part rotary switch s, t, for controlling the slower motor i, the parts of the switch s, t being responsive to the motion of different portions of the wire &c. Wire &c. a, drawn from a rotary drum b by the rollers g, hangs in a bight f. If material is being so wound on to the former d that the bight becomes too short, a lever p and cam q closes the spring-urged switch o to operate the faster motor h so to feed more wire &c. If, however, wire is being drawn slowly from the bight f, rollers z, rotated by the wire, move the part t of the rotary switch slower than the part s which is driven from the rollers g, so to bring the brush y into register with a gap x, to stop the slower motor i and interrupt supply until the rollers z move the brush y into contact with the ring w of the part s again.
