[Class 20 (i)] A clamp for a built-up pole comprises upper and lower spaced plates 14, 13 with holes 16 through which principals 11 may extend, and means for effecting relative movement between the plates in the direction of the principals in order to force them to lie at an angle to the axes of the principals so that the edges of the holes bite the surface of the principals. As shown in Figs. 3, 4 the plates are drawn together by means of a central nut and bolt 19, spacing blocks 17 ensuring that the peripheries of the plates remain a constant distance apart so that the plates are deformed. Several such clamps are spaced along the pole. Those near the base, where in the case of a tapered pole the principals are relatively widely spaced, are larger than those near, the apex and may have more than one clamping bolt. As shown in Fig. 8 the clamp may be formed of a single triangular plate 14 with the apices 14a turned back through 180 degrees and spaced from the main part of the plate. The principals pass through holes 16 in the plates and apices, the apices being drawn towards the plates by means of a bolt 19 and a washer which contacts their edges. The upper ends of the principals may be secured together by a headpiece 20, Fig. 2. Secured to the headpiece 20 may be several diverging tubes 21, each carrying an insulator 22 and tied together by ties 23. The Provisional Specification describes a modified type of clamp comprising inner and outer bands which together define holes for the principals. Lateral bolts between each pair of principals are used to draw the bands together.
