[Class 103 (vi)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In an axle-bearing mounting for tramcars and like vehicles, sheets of rubber 7 stressed in shear are interposed between the axle-box 1 and frame 5 in substantially parallel and vertical planes transverse to the vehicle to permit and limit both relative vertical and transverse movement between the axle-box and frame. The rubber sheets are preferably bonded to pairs of metal plates 8 sandwiched between the brackets 5 and axle-box flanges 3. To guard against the rubber 7 being torn from the plates 8 or being put in tension by the tractive effort on the axle, the rubber may be put under a set initial compression by adjustment of the brackets 5 through bolts engaging elongated holes on the vehicle frame.
