Abstract
627,446. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. PEEBLES & CO., Ltd., B., and RODGER, J. W. May 27, 1947, No. 14068. [Class 351 An annular core consists of a stack of laminations of similar non-circular shape angularly staggered about the axis so as to form one or more helical ridges at its outer or inner periphery, there being a number of holes arranged in a circle round the centre, certain of which are occupied by clamping bolts. Each lamination A is square with rounded corners A<SP>1</SP> The laminations are held together by bolts or'rivets G passing through selected holes A<SP>4</SP> which are equally spaced round a circle having a diameter slightly less than the square side. The bolts or rivets G also pass through the end plates B. The staggered arrangement of the laminations forms at the outer periphery of the stack four V-shaped helical grooves extending, round the stack. Each of the end plates B has four kidney-shaped openings registering with the groove ends. Air from the fan E and directed by the fan cowl F traverses the helical paths. A sheet metal cover H rests on the ribs and completely surrounds the stack. Staggering of the laminations may be done either singly or in groups according to the amount of cooling surface required.
