Abstract
627,436. Valve accessories. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and HODSON, C. F. April 17, 1947, No. 10227. [Class 135] In a valve having co-operating surfaces one of which is arranged to slide rectilinearly and, independently, to rotate relatively to the other surface, one of the movements of the movable surface covers and uncovers a port in the other surface, and one of the surfaces is formed with at least one recess containing lubricant. As shown, a member 12, having a port 13 cooperates with a valve member 10 provided with recesses 22 filled with lubricant and arranged in the form of an involute. A spindle 16, secured to the valve 10 and housed in a casing 18 carries a worm wheel 21 which meshes with a worm 20 formed on a spindle 14 mounted in the casing 18 between stops 19. In operation, the port 13 is opened or closed by axial movement of the rod 14 whilst periodic rotation thereof causes rotation of the valve 10 about its spindle 16 and spreading of lubricant between the surfaces. It is stated that alternatively the valve member may be rotated to open or close the port and moved axially to spread the lubricant.
