Abstract

509,157. Fluid checks for doors &c. GALLOWAY, L. W., and ADAMS (VICTOR), Ltd., R. Jan. 14, 1938, No. 1307. [Class 65 (i)] In a door check of the kind in which a piston &c. 6 is displaceable axially along a fixed cylinder 1 by rotation of a spindle 4 fixed to the door, and has a valve to allow easy passage of fluid from one side of the piston to the other when the piston moves one way, and restricts such flow when the piston moves the opposite way, the valve, which may be an annulus 17, rests on a friction sleeve 16 embracing the lower end 4a of the spindle 4, and adapted to remain stationary during the initial movement of the piston so as to close or open the ports 18 quickly, through which the fluid passes. When the ports are closed, fluid passes from the space under the piston through ports 11 up the spindle 4a and through ports 12 restricted by an adjustable rod 13 in the spindle 4. The piston is moved by a quick-pitch, double helical thread 5 engaging a threaded portion of the piston. The sleeve 16 may comprise a split inner sleeve of friction material surrounded by a split sleeve of metal.
