[Class 109] A serving or protecting cap for the end of a cable 11 to prevent fraying &c. comprises a tubular body 10 with an open end 13, to which end it tapers outwardly, provided with a wedgeshaped notch 14 so that the open end of the body may be pressed inwardly about the cable until the body tapers inwardly towards its open end. The other end of the body is preferably closed, the closed end 12 being tapered. The enlarged end of the cable, caused by its tendency to fray, is accommodated in the largest part of the body towards its closed end. The cap is usually of metal and may be applied to metallic or non-metallic ropes or cords.
