Abstract

616,898. Flashless propellants. GORDON, S., WHITWORTH, E., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 18, 1946, No. 27954. [Class 9 (ii)] A flashless propellant of 570Œ150 cals. per gram calorific value comprises colloidable nitrocellulose in colloided form, one or more self-explosive nitric esters, nitroguanidine, one or more organic basic stabilizers and one or more neutral non-explosive gelatinizers wherein the ratio of colloidable nitrocellulose to the nitric ester or esters lies between 1.3 to 1 and 2.8 to 1 and wherein the proportions of these ingredients are: one or more self-explosive nitric esters such as nitroglycerine and colloidable nitrocellulose 33Œ5 per cent; nitroguanidine 56Œ8 per cent; one or more organic basic stabilizers such as diethyl diphenyl urea, dimethyl diphenyl urea, ethyl phenyl urethane, diphenyl urethane, phenyl benzyl urethane or mixtures thereof and one or more neutral non- explosive gelatinizers, for example dialkyl esters of dibasic organic acids, such as dibutyl phthalate, diamyl phthalate, dibutyl tartrate or diamyl tartrate, or ethers such as dibenzyl ether, or mixtures thereof 11Œ3 per cent. Additional ingredients such as potassium salts or calcium carbonate may be added. Specification 584,907, [Group IV], is referred to.
