Abstract
603,975. Two-part couplings. DUNNING- HAM, I. J., and VINTEN, C. Nov. 19, 1945, No. 31075. [Class 38 (i)] In a plug-and-socket coupling, the contacts c, d are mounted in insulators a, b which are encased in moulded rubber casings f, g provided with circumferential ribs m in engagement with grooves in the insulators and ends n constructed about cables q. To provide a water-proof joint, a rubber ring p engages a groove o in each end n which is preferably cemented or vulcanized to the cable q at t. A metal band m<1> may be provided on each casing to retain the ribs m in the grooves. As shown, Fig. 4, the meeting edges k, k<1> of the casings may interlock. The contacts c may incorporate beryllium copper or phosphor-bronze strip springs in longitudinal slots in its walls. Collars h are preferably provided for mounting the coupling on panels. The insulators a, b may be made of a phenol-formaldehyde linen-base material.
