Abstract

6 0 1,8 5 1. Glass furnaces. AKTIEBOLAGET SURTE GLASBRUK. Oct. 8, 1945, No. 26221. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1944. [Class 39(iii)] [Also in Group XII] A glass furnace heated by passage of current between electrodes 4a, 4b, through the molten glass 2, is lined with plates of carbon-less iron. In the melting chamber 1, the lining 7, 8, 9 extends to the top 10 of the furnace, the unmelted charge 3 protecting the iron against oxidation at the hottest part of the lining adjacent to the upper surface of the bath 2. In the working chamber 6 the lining 11, 12, 13 terminates below the molten glass surface. The star-point of the supply transformer may, if desired, be connected to the plates which may be earthed.
