Abstract
601,023. Heating and cooling air. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Jan. 26, 1945, No. 2108. Convention date, May 29, 1943. [Classes 64(i) and 64(iii)] [Also in Group X] An apparatus for extracting heat from used air or vapour comprises two heatexchangers through which the used air passes in succession, the first heatexchanger 3 serving to transfer heat to fresh air, the second 5, 6 to a liquid, e.g. water employed in the operation of plant. The used air enters at 1 and after being drawn through the heat-exchangers, by a fan 7, may be rejected to atmosphere, via the passage 8, or part may be diverted via passage 9 and either led via pipe 10 to the point 12 where it is mixed with the warmed fresh air, or passed directly via pipe 17 into the room to be heated. Part of the used air issuing from the first heat-exchanger 3 may be delivered to the fresh air. The fresh air, with the cooled used air if any, is delivered from the passage 14. The second heatexchanger, (see Fig. 3) comprises strips of twisted metal 34 suspended from pipes 33 in which flows the liquid to be heated. This liquid passes through holes in the top of the pipes and travels down both sides of each strip to collect in sumps 19 and 22. The liquid may be pumped from sump 19 to the top of the second half 5 of the heatexchanger, or the two parts may be placed on top of each other. The strips of metal are mutually staggered, and placed in the path of the used air.
