Abstract
601,007. Ironing and pressing machines. HOLTTUM, W. R. Dec. 6, 1943, No. 20398. [Class 138(ii)] A power press of the kind having a pair of tables swinging round a centre column to bring them in turn under a press head is adapted to have the tables fixed relatively to the swinging frame carrying them, and the press head is of the kind carried by an arm or arms swinging on a horizontal axis and brought by a fluid pressure operated ram and toggle over the table and pressed thereon both tables and press head being steam heated. The work tables, 5, convex surfaced, are carried on the ends of a cross arm 3 swinging round the axis of a pillar 2, on a base plate 1 and cams or contact members are provided on the tables, one or other of which for the table when in pressing position meets and presses in a plunger to admit pressure fluid to the ram 9 which operates the toggle 15 to swing the press head 10 round its shaft 13 on to the table 5. Steam is fed, to the tables by a centre conduit 7 with suitable gland or seal, as described in Specification 600,507 and condensation is carried off by a pipe 8 branching into the pillar and fitted with a steam trap as also described in the Specification referred to. The shaft 13 of the press head is hollow conveying steam at one end and condensation at the other. A pedal H works the pressure exhaust valve allowing the spring 17 to lift away the press head.
