Abstract
606,162. Scraping intestines. OPPENHEIMER CASING CO. (U.K.), Ltd., (Oppenheimer Casing Co., Ltd.) Feb. 19, 1946, No. 5205. [Class 28(ii)] Animal intestines are scraped, by being pulled through between a rotated scraper drum 7 with blades and a fixed scraper block 8 which has in inserted working face 13 of resilient material, e.g. rubber. The block may be of dovetail shape slidable in a similar groove and withdrawable endwise by means of a handle 15. The block 8 is pressed upwards by a counterweight 20 the movement of which is limited by the bottom of a screw 30 abutting against a fixed bracket 26 and a locknut 31 to set the required gap between the block 8 and the drum 7. An index dial 32 shows the amount of setting of the gap, the dial being able to be zeroized. The gap is free to increase under pressure. Another stop 27 provides an overriding control to prevent the gap from being set closer than a limiting value. The parallelism of the gap is first checked and adjusted by screws 25, Fig. 4, acting on hold-ups 17 near each side of the table carrying the block 8, the hold-ups having spherical ends held by lateral adjusting screws 26. The intestines are pulled up through the gap by three friction rollers 10 the centre roller being free at one end to allow the intestines to be threaded between the rollers. Sprays 9 direct warm water towards the drum.
