Abstract
591,166. Making lathe tools and boring-cutters. BOLD, H. April 28, 1945, No. 10776. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] Casting composite articles.- Lathe tools, boring - cutters, &c. are made by inserting a plug of cemented carbide 5 into a hole in a bar 4, brazing and then grinding away the envelope to expose the cutting edge. The hole may extend the length of the bar and may be coaxial or eccentric. The plug may be secured by shrinking. In a modification, Fig. 14, the plug 17 is secured in a mould 18 and a shank is cast thereon by pouring metal into an opening 19 or by filling the opening with pieces of steel and melting them in situ.
